In his second symphony Matthias Georg Kendlinger processes a vital part of his artistic journey, which is shaped by knowledge and appreciation for the Ukrainian culture.
“I’ve been feeling as much Austrian as I feel Ukrainian for a long time now and I would like my music to build connecting bridges.“ This can be experienced through Ukrainian motives as well as through the citing of the traditional song “Tyroleans are fun“ in the scherzo.
This composition is also meant to be a “thank you“ to his friends and colleagues, who have shown him the soul of Ukraine by being open minded.
Its world premiere has taken place in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, Lviv. It was performed by Kendlinger’s K&K Philharmoniker and conducted by Taras Lenko on July 13, 2017.
